Bernard-Gregorius-Constant POELMAN worked as a printer and publisher in Ghent from 1787 to 1823. POELMAN was one of the most important Ghent printers in the 1st quarter of the 19th century. He was, among other things, the printer-publisher of the Ghent magazine 'Courrier de Flandre'.

Half parchment binding. Gilt spine with text 'Parochiale Schole'. Approbation of 1763.
The author of this chapbook is the priest Jan Baptist Van Lokeren, priest in Wingene (...-1731?). He states in his 'Prochiale Schole' that he gives this title to his booklet, because it was written for the benefit of all parishioners. In it he laments the poverty of the churches, the mournfully celebrated services for want of singers, hymnals, and vestments, and defends at length the importance and necessity of Sunday schools.
