The original sculpture was commissioned in 1755 by the Marquis de Marigny (1727-1781), Director General of the King's Buildings, for the Château de Choisy-Le-Roi (Val-de-Marne). The marble block was delivered on January 5, 1756 (plaster model at the 1757 Salon, no. 165). Marble in the booklet of the 1767 Salon, no. 187 (visible in the sculptor's studio). The payment on July 1, 1771. Requested by Countess Du Barry (1743-1793) for the park of the Château de Louveciennes, March 16, 1772. Gift of Louis XV to Mme Du Barry, April 12, 1772. Reserved for the Nation by Louis-Simon Boizot, December 26, 1793. Versailles, special museum of the French School, 1802 [notice of the year X, n° 353]. Palais du Luxembourg, 1803-1818. Entered the Louvre before 1824 (inventoried as being in the Angoulême gallery at that date) (link).

- The sculpture in very good condition, with the usual wear and traces of use.

- The base with some chips.

- Minor superficial and hardly visible chip to one of the folds of the cloth on the back of the sculpture.
