Henri Ottevaere was a Brussels painter and draughtsman, who received his education at the Academy of Brussels under the direction of Jean-François Portaels (1818-1895). Later, he became a teacher at the Academy in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and from 1908 to 1936, he was director of the Academy of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.
