The artist of this costly painting was without any doubt influenced by the Venetian painter Jacopo Bassano (1510-1592), which is particularly evident in the representation of the figures and the use of colours. In addition, the Northern influence is unmistakably present. The frequent use of the blue colour gives the whole a very sumptuous appearance. This canvas has been studied by Dr. J. Rutgers in detail, who supports the attribution to Hans Rottenhammer I (1564-1625).
