"The original Valentine pattern was a design created by Percy Brett, copied onto Chinese porcelain as a special presentation service made for Commodore George Anson in 1743.
The Pattern is dedicated to love and was originally given to Commodore Anson on his circumnavigation of the world in 1743 – one of the most arduous voyages in the history of sea adventures. He harboured at Canton, where he and his men were instrumental in saving the city from a fire which would otherwise have destroyed it. In recognition, a porcelain service – in the 'Valentine Pattern' was commissioned for Anson, depicting items drawn from the sketches of his resident artist on that voyage."
