The reverse with various writings referring to Jacob Jordaens. Despite several references to Jacob Jordaens (see also: Ref.:), the work seems to us to be more French in nature.

Ref.:

- Added a copy of an expertise by Prof. W. Vogelsang, dated 1952, who attributed the work to the Flemish artist Jacob Jordaens.

- The work part of the exhibition 'Bruisend realisme', Roeselare, November 15-24, 1996, n° 16. The work published as a work by Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678), depicting the presumed portrait of Philippe de Champaigne (pp. 41-43).

Condition: (UV-checked)

- The painting in general in good and hangable condition, with a faint network of craquelures.

- Relined.

- Transformed from an oval work to a rectangular painting.

- Minor mold stains.

- The UV-light shows foremost the typical colour of the varnish, with some retouches here and there (in different phases).
