The figure of Hieronymus is based on a work by Albrecht Dürer dated 1521 in the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, Lisbon, inv. 828, after an original by Joos van Cleve. Within the large number of paintings with this composition, different groups with similar characteristics can be distinguished. (link)

Condition: (UV-checked)

- The painting in quite good and hangable condition. Cradled panel.

- UV-light shows foremost the typical colour of the varnish, with some minor touch-ups. 

- The typical minimal overpaint where the different parts of the panel meet.

- Minor flaking paint and slightly loosening paint.

- Not inspected outside the protection glass.
