Sainte femme en noyer sculpté, Flandres, Malines ou Bruxelles, premier quart du 16ème siècle

25

H 39,5 cm

Although the manneristic sculpture bears the three-bar mark of Malines on the reverse, this refined figure of a female saint appears far removed from the more stylised 'poupées de Malines' that flourished in this centre of woodcarving. The statuette is instead reminiscent of Brussels sculpture within the orbit of the Borman family, such as the Mary Magdalene by Jan Borman I in the Art and History Museum, Brussels (inv. no. 2992).
