Vermeersch was born in Maldegem and because of his artistic talent he soon moved to Ghent, where he studied from 1824 to 1826 at the Ghent Art Academy as a pupil of Pieter-Frans De Noter (1779-1842) and specialized in painting landscapes and vedute, as well as interiors. Later, around 1841 he moved to Munich, where he fell into the grace of King Louis I of Bavaria and the aristocratic public.
Vermeersch and his wife were buried with great honors on May 26 1852 at the Südlicher Friedhof in Munich. There, also by order of the King, a grave monument was erected in 1853 for Vermeersch and his wife, incorporating the portrait bust of both by sculptor Johann von Halbig (see the last picture, link).
