The Belgian painter Vital Jean De Gronckel (1820, Sint-Kwintens-Lennik - 1890, Schaarbeek, Brussels) was mainly active as a genre painter and portraitist. (link) He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels with Louis Gallait. For a time he was active in Saint Petersburg (1848-1855). Silent witnesses to this are some works in the collection of the Hermitage. (link) On his return he was a professor at the academies of Lokeren and Brussels. Later he was also active in London. (link)
