According to a label on the revers a 'finished study' of a similar painting, once in the collection of the Duke of Gloucester (1808). 

A similar smaller version (30 x 23 cm) of this painting sold at Bonhams Edinburgh, 29 Augustus 2003, lot 1121 (hammer price: €24.602).
