This map is a large representation of the siege of the city of Breda (August 27th 1624 to June 5th 1625) by the Spaniards under command of Ambrogio Spinola. For more information on this work (link).
Inscription below, right of the middle: 'Jac. Callot in et fecit'.
Inscription bottom left of the middle: 'Scala di passi Geometri Mille di piedi cinq per passi'.
A similar map was offered by Christie's London (Old Master Prints, 4 December 2007).
Condition: (UV-checked)
- Not inspected outside the frame.
- Very well and beautiful framed.
- Six parts attached and not loose.
- Rather in average condition, with some overal damage: creases, tears, minor foxing.
- Borders and legend are missing (see for example the map in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen collection, link).
- The mentions of 'Israel ex. Parisijs' (published by Israel Silvestre) and 'Cum privil. Regis' not present. Banderol with title upper center missing (for both aspects: see for example the map in the Princeton University Art Museum, link).
