An impressive Italian white marble 'Pan' herm figure, possibly 17th C.

The statue is accompanied by a copy of a certificate from Alexander & Berendt, dated April 27, 1977: 

"Certificate: Two Louis XIV herm statues of white veined marble and depicting Pan. The statues are of different sizes. They were designed by Nicholas Poussin and were executed either in the studio of Algardi and his followers or by Domenico Guidi or in his studio. The statues were executed in Italy in the second half of the 17th century. Statues closely related are to be found in the Quinconces du Midi, Versailles. The statues had been kept in the open for many years and when purchases were cleaned and polished to put them in their present condition. C.F. The Burlington Magazine, September 1971, 'Domenico Guidi and Nicholas Poussin' by L. Bershad. We hereby certify that in our expert knowledge the above statues are entirely original and of the period and in accordance with the description given, above.
