- According to Alex Kidson, the author of the latest catalogue raisonné of Romney's paintings (link), this painting can be attributed to the entourage of Romney. Furthermore, the painting has a correspondance with Romney's real Lady Altamont at Tate Britian. (indirect communication February 17, 2023)
For the Tate Britain painting, see: link.
- Direct communication with Alex Kidson August 25, 2023: The painting is probably a tribute to Romney, painted by a later artist, who admired his works. One possible track is that of R. W. Withers-Lee (act. 1884-1903).
