Eugène Broerman was a Belgian painter, trained at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. In 1881, he was the winner of the famous first Godecharle prize or the Godecharle contest.
Most probably a portret of the Belgian poet and art critic Emile Verhaeren (1855-1916). He was one of the founders of the school of Symbolism and was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature on six occasions.
