Based on a terracotta bust by Guillaume Coustou, representing his brother Nicolas (1658-1733) in the privacy of the studio. The original bust donated to the French State in 1799 by the sculptor's grandson and since 1898 part of the Louvre collection (M.R. 3520). (link)
