Ludovic Janssen (1888-1954): 'La campine...', huile sur toile

Early in his career, Ludovic Janssen was given the title 'Le peintre de la Campine', a title he shares with Emile Van Doren (1865-1949), a landscape painter from whom he received advice in Genk. It is possible that Janssen discovered the Limburg Kempen thanks to his teacher at the Liège Académie, Evariste Carpentier (1845-1922). Carpentier was an important promoter of Genk as a painting place. Under his impulse, many art students from Liège found their way to Genk, including, in addition to Janssen, Albert Sirtaine (1868-1959), Armand Jamar (1870-1946), Léon Jamin (1872-1944) and Valérie Pholien (1873-1961).

- The work in good and hangable condition with some craquelures in the sky and a small spot of flaking paint in the middle of the right side.
